Thank you for your inquiry regarding our handling facilities at River Services, Inc. River Services is a wholly owned subsidiary of River Trading Company, LTD which markets coal across the Central and Eastern portions of the United States and brings a wealth of transportation expertise to the terminal. River Services has been the operator of the Port of Minneapolis since 1991. Many of the employees of River Trading Company began their careers as employees of this Minneapolis Terminal stemming as far back as 1974. The terminal has always been owned by the City of Minneapolis but through the years has had several different operators. River Services has been the terminal operator longer than any other company and is proud of the relationship it has developed with the City over these many years. You will find that our employees, most who have had thirty years of terminal experience or more are the consummate professionals.
River Services, Inc. is located in north east Minneapolis, Minnesota one block off of Interstate 94. The river location is milepost marker 856.8 on the Upper Mississippi River and is the furthest most barge navigable point on the River. The terminal sits on 44 acres of land and has the equipment and expertise to handle most general commodities from one mode of transportation to another, be it barge, rail or truck. Should our customers have a need there is 15 acres of paved outdoor storage or plenty of indoor storage in our 110,000 square foot warehouse available. This terminal has barge fleeting, can accommodate 150 railcars and space to stage 50 trucks or more if necessary. The grain storage facility has four 80,000 bushel bins for a total of 320,000 bushels. The fertilizer facilities are comprised of four concrete domes varying in size from 2,000 tons up to 16,000 tons. Barges are unloaded off one of the two sheet piling river walls where frequently specialty and heavy lifts are also trans-loaded.
